Photoset: From Sea to Conveyor. Hong Kong. 2009.

I found both of the activities going on in these two photos fascinating. The first is of fishing boats that are selling fresh fish to patrons who lean over from the dock 15 feet above the boats. Each boat as a terrace made from randomly shaped and sized buckets with strategic holes placed in them that allows water flowing from a hose at the top to trickle down each level and circulate fresh water to the fish in the boat. I doubt the water in this bay in Hong Kong was “fresh” though. The second picture shows a conveyor belt of sushi, priced by the color of plate it was on. Like some places in the US, patrons go up and grab whatever items they want and settle up at the end. What made this interesting was the sheer functionality of the process; this was not a 4 star restaurant… this was a fast food sushi joint, with people running into a packed seating area, pounding four plates of sushi, and running out 5 minutes later.

This was shot from a harbor in Hong Kong nearing sunset. The light waned pretty fast because of all the smog. We paid a fishing boat a couple bucks to bring us out to a private beach for the afternoon. This was a memorable day of a great week visiting my friend Billy.
